To further bolster the sustainability of our operations, Korsnäs has secured both FSC and PEFC certification of its forest activities. This entails a pledge to preserve biological diversity in the forest and protect land whose character has been shaped by cultivation. Environmentally certified forest use also involves taking social responsibility and managing the forests to ensure long-term high production and economic sustainability.
Our cutting activities are based on high-level area ecological plans that take into account the special environmental protection requirements of each particular area. We also draw up detailed environmental protection plans for every individual cutting.
It is not permissible to damage trees, soils or features of unusual natural value. All cutting must fulfil our environmental certification undertakings, and live up to the demands and expectations, both biological and economic, of the forest owners.
Care in cutting means undertaking preventive efforts relating to environmental protection, cultural preservation, and adaptations to forest type and proximity of residents. The procedures for such cooperative efforts are included in our ISO 14001 environmental management system, which provides detailed instructions for machine operators. The operators are trained in the care of both the natural and cultivated environment, and in adapting to the requirements of specific biotopes. They also know how to use simple bridges to avoid damaging waterways.
The machines use biodegradable oils. To prevent serious consequences in the event of an accident, diesel fuel tanks must be situated only where they do not constitute a hazard. We are prepared to put out fires and deal with oil leaks.
