THE CYCLE OF PACKAGING

The raw materials of Korsnäs’ production come from forests that are
well managed – financially, environmentally and socially. We have
been environmentally certified for many years, and our customers
are continually raising the bar for quality. Korsnäs is therefore working hard to increase the percentage of certified raw materials in our products as demand for them grows.

Korsnäs paper and packaging materials offer a major environmental advantage because they are based on a renewable resource that can be recycled, and play a positive role in a sustainable cycle of materials.

The packaging cycle starts with nature’s own production of forest through photosynthesis. It builds on natural ingredients: sunshine, carbon dioxide and water. From the raw materials provided by the forest, we make our products. Once the packages made from our materials have done their job, the fibre in them can be recycled in other, less demanding packaging and paper products. Fibres can be recycled up to six times, saving energy, money and the environment. Once the products have served their purpose, they can still provide energy when they are incinerated. This reduces consumption of other fuels, such as oil. Burning fibre produces water and carbon dioxide, which the trees absorb in the process of photosynthesis – and that closes the circle.
