FIRST IN THE WORLD TO BE CERTIFIED

In 1997, Korsnäs became the first forestry company in the world to be certified from seedling to finished product under ISO 14001. Certification was based on a management system facilitating systematic environmental efforts. We thus have years of experience in this area.

Today there are two global organisations that certify forest activities and products: the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). Korsnäs can provide customers with products certified according to both systems. We do so selectively at this point, since only 2/3 of Sweden’s forestlands are certified. We seek to influence our materials suppliers to gain certification themselves and thus help our customers achieve their ambitions. Thus far, demand does not exceed the supply of certified raw materials. We will do our best to maintain that balance in the future, too.

In 2004, the traceability of Korsnäs’ materials was certified according to FSC Chain of Custody. What this means is that Korsnäs, with the aid of independent auditing by the SGS certification agency, has shown that we can trace the origins of all wooden raw materials and that we do not use controversial wood. The following year, we added a PEFC Chain of Custody certification to increase the available range of certified products and the choices available to our customers.
