One hundred girls from the Örebro area between the ages of 14 and 15 spent a week of their school summer holiday attending a nature and engineering camp.
The camp is organised in cooperation with Tulläng School, the Komtek initiative, Risbergska School and Örebro University and is financed entirely by private enterprise, with Korsnäs as one of the 14 sponsors.
“This is part of a long-term project to increase interest in engineering among young people,” says Monica Linder, Head of HR at Korsnäs in Frövi. “As well as providing financial support, we also want to assist in other ways. We’ve invited a project group on a study visit and seek to give various kinds of help,” she adds.
The girls take part in activities such as printing images on T-shirts, which they can then keep, engraving ID badges with their names using a computer-controlled milling machine, milling plastic and wood and soldering LEDs.
The week also includes canoeing, making fizzy “bath bombs”, outdoor games and ice cream, robotics, filming and bead mosaic art. The week is rounded off with a film and barbecue.
